Eligibility
Must be 55 years of age or better and qualify based on income. Senior Companions must be able to:
  • Develop a supportive person-to-person relationship with adults with disabilities, in particular older adults,
  • Be in good physical health,
  • Pass a criminal history check, and
  • Commit to serving a minimum of 15 hours per week with 2 to 6 clients.

Provides socially isolated seniors or disabled adults with such services as:
  • companionship,
  • nutrition assistance,
  • socialization,
  • assistance with correspondences,
  • escorts to medical visits and essential shopping,
  • information and advocacy,
  • as well as respite support for caregivers.
Benefits for volunteers: In order to be eligible for a tax-free stipend of $2.65 per hour, Senior Companions must not exceed a projected annual income from all sources, after deducting allowable medical expenses, of $1805.00 per month. In addition to an hourly stipend, Senior Companions receive 40 hours of pre-service orientation and training, accident and liability insurance, annual physicals, monthly trainings, approved transportation reimbursement, and annual recognition.
