Independent Living Program offered by Washington State Department of Children, Youth and Families

Eligibility
Youth are eligible for the IL program if they are/were age 15-17 in an established dependency through DCYF or a tribal child welfare agency and in an out-of-home foster care placement for at least 30 days between ages 15 to 18th birthday. Once initial eligibility is determined the youth will continue to be eligible until their 18th birthday.

Application process
Call for information. Caseworker should complete the referral form in Famine and submit the form to the contracted provider or regional IL lead.

Focus Population

  • Foster Youth
Prepares foster and former foster youth to live independently by increasing their skills, knowledge and competency. Contracts with local community based agencies and federally recognized tribes throughout the state to provide independent living skills. Services may include:
  • Daily Living Skills
  • Educational Support
  • Career Exploration
  • Vocational Training
  • Job Placement and Retention
  • Funding available up to $500 for independent living enrichment activities related to the youth's independent living goals.

Provides child care licensing, child care subsidies and complaint investigation regarding child care homes and centers. Promotes early learning as well as foster care and adoption.
