KCLS offers homework assistance in several ways.    Study Zone: Volunteer tutors provide free homework help at KCLS libraries. Provides adult basic education classes in reading, writing, and math to serve the needs of the adult student, 18 years or older, who lacks these basic skills. Each person is tested and diagnosed for reading, writing, and math levels and is provided with appropriate materials for instruction. Coordinates a yearlong achievement program designed to recruit, stimulate, and encourage high academic and cultural achievement among African-American high school students.   Recruits students annually and conducts annual Academic Olympic competitions for students in 9th-12th grades in NAACP Branches throughout the country.   First place local winners then compete with youth from other cities at the National ACT-SO finals held during our National Convention. Includes 26 categories of competition such as sciences, arts and humanities.

Offers two evening programs per week - Music and scouting-type program for boys and girls ages 4-16 and a Youth Group for Middle School - High School students. Music and scouting program is every Wednesday.

The Community Resource Center is an accepting and supportive place for teens in the Stanwood Camano area to gather after school and participate in a variety of activities and clubs.

Youth Programs at Room One consist of both education and direct service advocacy. The education programming supports schools, service providers, and youth with comprehensive health education and teacher training, healthy relationships workshops, and leadership development. The direct service work consists of direct advocacy work with youth and young adults who are experiencing homelessness, parenting, sexual violence, and other issues related to a lack of resources.

Provides college preparation programs for low-income, first-generation students in grades 6-12 in the Tacoma, Franklin-Pierce, and Bethel School Districts. Services include study skills development, tutoring, mentoring, college visits, assistance with college admission and financial aid, career development, cultural enrichment and SAT/ACT preparation.

Offers a computer center, homework assistance and tutoring, free arcade games and summer programs for youth.  Provides staff-supervised games such as ping-pong and pool.

Works in partnership with Kent Meridian and Rainier Beach High Schools to offer year-long after-school academic programs to all newly arrived refugee youth in high school. Classroom Assistants and students meet weekly to complete homework assignments, tackle the senior research project, and complete important college application paperwork, such as the FAFSA. Time is divided into classroom instruction, individual and group work, mentorship, educational workshops, and access to scholastic resources.   Both sites feature Classroom Assistants who focus on assisting students as they participate in academic activities to improve their reading and writing skills and increase their knowledge of college and career readiness. The program strives to provide the information, resources, and access to opportunities to meet and exceed grade level standards, while completing high school graduation and college application milestones in order to graduate on time and with plans to pursue post-secondary education. Also provides opportunities for students to participate in civic and community engagement projects to build their leadership skills as well as to complete service learning requirements for graduation.
