Uses a trauma-informed approach to enhance behavioral health awareness, promote self-empowerment, and increase access to services. Assists individuals, families, and communities across WA State with behavioral health needs and concerns. The work of the OBHA is based on desired outcomes expressed by participants. Provides information and referrals to all community members and assist with complaints, grievances, appeals, Mental Health Advanced Directives, and the Fair Hearings process.

Provides a self-advocacy organization of, for, and by adults with developmental disabilities. Activities include legislative connections and an Advocacy Day in Olympia. Limited transportation is available with RSVP at least 3 days in advance.

Advocacy also includes post-conviction relief, including records sealing, restitution modifications, and assisting youth with reentry supports when returning to community from incarceration. Offers information, individualized consultation, referrals and workshops about community and government resources for people of all ages. Assists families in accessing services for persons with autism, including how to work through the state's advocacy system for people with disabilities or how to work with a school district for special educational programs. Educates families about autism and refers to community resources.

Provides a service officer who appears before the Veterans Administration rating board and assists the client in obtaining rightful benefits.  Use of the officer can substantially minimize the time required for processing.  Service officers also assist veterans with disabilities in preparing claims for service connected compensation, hospitalization, occupational training, education, insurance, or other benefits.  No assistance is available for Social Security claims.

Provides disability rights information, technical assistance for disability issues, general information about legal rights, strategies about how to become a stronger self-advocate, information sheets on a wide range of subjects to empower individuals with disabilities to better advocate for themselves, community education and training, and some legal services for disability rights violations. Helps people understand and receive services of Washington Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, Washington State Department of Services for the Blind, Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation and Centers for Independent Living. Investigates questions and complaints with a client's vocational rehabilitation counselor. Assists clients in appealing decisions made by a counselor if negotiation fails. Teaches clients about their rights and protection under the law, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act. Also provides information and referral to additional resources.
